The European Parliament is asking for frequent chargers to be launched that will match all cell phones and tablets.

Though expertise firms have beforehand been inspired to work collectively on growing a common charger, officers say “voluntary agreements between completely different business gamers haven’t yielded the specified outcomes”.

Such a proposal could possibly be particularly difficult for Apple, which has shipped greater than a billion iPhones and iPads which use a so-called Lightning connector.

In line with EU officers, the modifications would make prospects’ lives simpler and assist the surroundings, with estimates suggesting that outdated chargers generate greater than 51,000 tonnes of digital waste annually.

Members of the European Parliament are planning to vote on the measure at a future session.

The EU has been calling for chargers to be standardised for a number of years.
